AI Faculty Fellows - Office of the Vice Provost for Education

The Tufts AI Faculty Fellows program will bring together faculty members from across the university to help their colleagues respond to generative AI in ways that fit their disciplines and local contexts. Fellows will combine discipline-specific expertise with shared learning about AI to provide individualized support to a far wider population of faculty than would be possible for centralized leadership alone.

The program welcomes faculty with a wide range of perspectives on AI: those interested in experimenting with AI-related tools and projects, as well as those focused on helping students and colleagues avoid uses of AI that interfere with learning, scholarship, or professional practice. Fellows will help colleagues work through AI-related ethics questions, adapt the university AI guidelines for their division, develop sample syllabus statements, and strengthen communication between faculty and the AI Council.

Each Fellow will also develop an open-ended project aimed at providing AI-related, discipline-specific support for the education or professional learning of students, faculty, and/or staff. Applicants need only propose a preliminary project idea; fellows will have opportunities to refine its scope and approach during the program. Projects might include developing a discipline-specific AI literacy resource, hosting a faculty workshop, creating and testing an educational AI tool, or gathering examples of productive and unproductive AI use within a field. Fellows will each receive a stipend to support their work.

Faculty whose projects are primarily research-focused should apply for a Tufts Institute for Artificial Intelligence (TIAI) Micro Grant; Fellows may also seek TIAI support for research components of projects that include both educational and research aims.
